 Parents Make the Difference!

Parents and caregivers have a life-long impact

In the first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life.

You help shape your child's future through the kinds of experiences you provide. Your baby was born to learn, and as a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher.

No job is more difficult ... more rewarding ... or more important than caring for young children!

TEN TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING
from the "I Am Your Child" Foundation

Be warm, loving and responsive

Respond to the child's cues and clues

Talk, read, and sing to your child

Establish routines and rituals

Encourage safe exploration and play

Make TV watching selective

Use discipline as an opportunity to teach

Recognize that each child is unique

Choose quality child care and stay involved

Take care of yourself

MUCH MORE INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Tulsa-area parenting classes, calendars, special events -- and other community services for parents and families

Parents, visit the other sections of this website for more information -- and find additional resources on the "Learn More" page! There you'll find links to many other online information sources for parents.

One example: Parenting Index, an alphabetical list of parenting topics on the excellent Smart Start (North Carolina Partnership for Children) website, with links.

  • To learn more about early brain development, JumpStart recommends:  BrainWonders: Helping Babies Grow and Develop
  • To learn what parents can do to shape their young children's emotional development, click here for a recent Newsweek article, "Reading Your Baby's Mind" which includes developmental milestones.

We recommend the Teach More/Love More website:  http://www.teachmorelovemore.org/Index.asp.  Find out more about your child's development, answers to parents' questions, and suggested activities to help your child learn.

Also, be sure to visit our website's Learn More resource section.
